Flight Sergeant Robert Montgomery

Flight Sergeant Robert Montgomery, Royal Australian Air Force. He died on Service on 11th November 1940, aged 28. He had been born in Edinburgh and was the son of Charles and Swannie Lena Montgomery of Ferniehurst, Stow and Edinburgh and is buried in Williamstown General Cemetery, Victoria, Australia. ( The C.W.G.C. records his Rank as  Leading Aircraftman ). He had been employed as a radio mechanic in Sydney, New South Wales when he enlisted as a Regular in March 1939. He had trained as a Radio Operator and was a trainee Observer when his D.H. 84 Dragon aircraft of the No.1 Air Observers School at Cootamundra crashed killing all aboard.
