Private Donald Miller Mallen

Private Donald Miller Mallen, 1st/5th ( Territorial ) Battalion Highland Light Infantry. He died from wounds in the 19th Casualty Cleasring Station on 21st September 1918 aged 30 during the “Advance to Victory” and is buried in Sunken Road Cemetery, Boisleux-St. Marc, near Arras, France. He was the son of George and Elizabeth Mallen of Stow then Midlothian but now Scottish Borders. He had been working as a forester in Eddleston, Peeblesshire when he enlisted in October 1914. He had originally enlisted in the 8th Royal Scots but in France he was posted to the H.L.I.  He had already been wounded in March 1918.
