Sergeant Archibald Wood

Sergeant Archibald Robertson Wood, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died from dysentery in hospital in Smyrna on Service on 29th October 1918  after he had been released as a Prisoner of War and is buried in Baghdad ( North Gate ) War Cemetery, Iraq.  He had been wounded and captured after the ” Charge ” on the Turkish trenches at Achi Baba Nullah on 12th July 1915. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of William and Jane Wood of Scott Street, Galashiels and the husband of Cecelia Wood of Townhead, Stow. He had been employed as a postman and was a Territorial, being mobilised with the Battalion in August 1914. ( His brother Kenneth also fell – see above ).
