Private Adam Scott

Private Adam Scott, 7th/8th ( Service )( Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France on 23rd July 1918, aged 30  during the Second Battle of the Marne and is commemorated on the Soissons Memorial. He was the husband of Janet Quarrie Scott of 5a Dewar Place, Edinburgh and the son of Adam and Euphemia Scott of Stow. Before enlisting in Summer 1916 he had been employed as a tailor in Lauder. He fell in the advance near Buzancy where the supporting artillery barrage failed to materialise and left the troops at the mercy of the strong German defences. 4 Officers and 92 Other Ranks were killed and 7 Officers and 214 Other Ranks were wounded. No ground was gained. His Headstone is inscribed ” Ever His Memory Shall Be Cherished, In Our Hearts A Sacred Spot”.
