Second Lieutenant Walter Barrie

Second Lieutenant Walter Barrie, 3rd ( Reserve ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers att. 6th ( Service ) Battalion, Border Regiment. He was killed in action in Belgium on 7th June 1917, aged 37. He had been born at Hartsgarth, Newcastleton and was the son of Margaret and the late John Barrie of Stobs Cottage, Hawick. He is buried in Irish House Cemetery, near Ypres, Flanders, Belgium. He had been in farming before enlisting in the Lothian and Border Horse and going to France in September 1915. Here he was selected for Officer Training and commissioned into the Kings Own Scottish Borderers where in November 1916 he was attached to the Border Regiment.
