Gunner James Dickson, 32nd Reserve Battery, Royal Field Artillery. He died on Service from endocarditis in the Military Hospital in Maryhill Barracks, Glasgow on 18th March 1917, aged 19. He had been born at Teviothead, was the son of James and Willhelmina Dickson of Winningtonrig, Stobs and is buried in Teviothead New Parish Churchyard, Teviothead, Hawick. Before enlisting he had been employed as a shepherd at Westerkirk in Dumfriesshire The R.F.A mainly used the 18 pounder field gun in an anti infantry role using both high explosive and shrapnel shells.
