Private James Wright

Private James Wright, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died in Egypt on 26th July 1915, aged 26, of wounds received in action at Gallipoli during the ” Charge ” on the Turkish trenches at Achi Baba Nullah on the 12th July. He was the son of George and Margaret Wright of Tweedside, Sprouston, Kelso and is buried in Alexandra ( Chatby ) Military and War Memorial Cemetery, Alexandria, Egypt. Private Wright came from a famous Sprouston fishing tackle manufacturing family which han invented the artificial flies ” Garry Dog ” and ” Greenwells Glory “. Before the War he had worked for Forrest and Sons in Kelso and was a key component of the Kelso Rugby side before the War. (  Thanks to David Welsh for this information ).
