Private Ralph Forsyth

Private Ralph Forsyth, 7th Battalion,( City of London ) Regiment. He died in France on 3rd October 1915, aged 21, of wounds received in action during the Battle of Loos. He was the son of Annie and the late Ralph Forsyth of 1 Seafield, Spittal and is buried in Abbeyville Communal Cemetery, Abbeyville, France. His Headstone is inscribed ” Boy Of My Heart Sweet Memories Of Thee That Shall Not Cease “. His Regiment successfully  captured the German positions at the ” Double Crassier ” and repulsed the German counter attack. 14 Officers and 250 Other Ranks became casualties. His brother James also fell. ( See above ). The photo shows the village of Loos after capture and the artist’s nightmarish illustration shows an attack at Loos with the troops wearing their gas hoods and using primitive grenades.
