Private J. Ross

Private J. V. Ross, East Yorkshire Regiment. ( The C.W.G.C. site lists only one J. V. Ross and his unit is 21st Battalion Machine Gun Corps ( Infantry). He was killed in action in France on 24th March 1918 during the German Spring Offensive ( Operation Michael ) and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Pozieres. It is possible that he was transferred into the M.G.C. from the East Yorks at some stage after the M.G.C was set up as a separate Unit in October 1915. The photographs show machine gunners preparing to resist the advancing Germans.
