Trooper James Pott

Trooper James Gideon Pott, ” D ” Squadron, 1st/1st Lothian and Border Horse. He died on Active Service in the 35th Casualty Clearing Station in Greece on 3rd December 1916, aged 36 and is buried in Sarigol Military Cemetery, Kriston, Greece.  He had been born at Lintalie, Jedburgh and was the son of Marion and the late George of Potburn, Ettrick. ” D ” Squadron had been sent to the Salonica front and arrived on 11th December 1915 where it was engaged in patrol work around the Bulgarian front line. In May the squadron became part of the 22nd Division and continued its patrol and reconnaissance work sometimes raiding Bulgar outposts. Disease was prevalent and many men were affected thus greatly reducing the strength of the Unit.
