Private Adam Laidlaw

Private Adam Bell Laidlaw, 7th/8th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action, aged 20, in France on 23rd April 1917 during the Battle of Arras and is buried in Tank Cemetery, Guemappe, Arras. He fell during the capture of Guemappe.  He had been born in Jedburgh and was the son of the late Robert Laidlaw  of Hartrigge, Jedburgh. Before enlisting in 1916 he had been employed as a ploughman at Oxnam Neuk farm. The photographs show troops and a tank in a captured village near Arras. The artillery piece pictured was captured during the Battle by the Battalion and after the War was put on display outside the Hawick Museum.
