Private James Bathgate

Private James Traill Bathgate, 1st/8th ( Territorial ) Battalion, Royal Scots. He died of wounds in Germany on 12th April 1918 whilst a Prisoner of War, aged 22. He had been born at Prestonkirk, East Lothian and was the eldest son of Adam and Marion Bathgate of Fernilea, Oldhamstocks and is buried in Niederzwehren Cemetery, Kassel, Germany. He had enlisted in November 1915 and joined his Battalion in France in May 1916.During the German Spring offensive he was wounded and captured in March 1918 later dying from his wounds. His Headstone is inscribed ” He Gave His All For Us”.
