Lance Corporal William Sanderson

Lance Corporal William Smail Sanderson, Royal Army Service Corps att. Royal Artillery. He fell in action in Greece between 26th and 27th April 1941, aged, 37 and is commemorated on the Athens Memorial. He had been born in Wallsend and was the son of George and Margaret Sanderson of St. Boswells and the husband of Helen Sanderson of Sprouston Cottages, Newtown St. Boswells. He had been a Reservist and was mobilised before the outbreak of War. The Germans had invaded Greece on the 6th April 1941 and the fighting was completed with the final evacuation of Allied troops on the 30th April 1941.
