Private James Hardie

Private James Hardie, 13th ( Quebec ) Battalion, Royal Highlanders of Canada. He died in the 6th Casualty Clearing Station in France on 25th December 1916, aged 35, from wounds received in action and is buried in Barlin Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas de Calais, France. He had been born in Earlston and was the son of John and Elizabeth Hardie of The Girrick and Blinkbonny, Nenthorn and 20 Cambusnethan Street, Edinburgh. They had lived at Nenthorn and had 7 of their 8 children born there. His brother Thomas also fell ( see above ). He had been working as a carpenter in Herschel, Saskatchewan when he enlisted in April 1916 and had landed in France in November 1916.
