Private George Luke

Private George J. Luke, 12th ( Service ) Battalion, Royal Scots.   He died of wounds, aged 20, in France on 3rd October 1915 received in action during the Battle of Loos and is buried in Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, France. He had been born in Eccles, Berwickshire and was the son of James and Agnes Luke.  He had been wounded and taken prisoner during the Battle and died in a German Field Hospital at Seclin. His body was reburied in Souchez in 1922. The Battalion suffered heavily in this Battle and casualties amounted to 9 Officers and 285 Other Ranks. 12th Royal Scots were a Unit in the 9th (Scottish) Division.
