Private James Bell

Private James Bell, 7th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died from wounds in the 2nd Stationary Hospital in France on 7th March 1916, age 48. He had been born in Lilliesleaf and was the son of the late Alexander and Jane Bell of Rutherford of Bedrule, Maxton, Roxburghshire and is buried in Abbeville Communal Cemetery, Somme, France. At that time the Battalion were in trenches in the Loos Sector where artillery and snipers took an incessant toll. His Headstone is inscribed ” Thy Purpose Lord We Cannot See But All Is Well That’s Done by Thee “.
