Private David Wilson M.M.

Private David Wilson M.M., 2nd Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. He was killed in action in France on 23rd August, aged 24 during the ” Advance to Victory”. He had been born in Maxton and was the only son of George and Helen Wilson of Teviotbank, Hawick and is buried in Gomiecourt South Cemetery.  He had originally enlisted  in the Scots Greys within a fortnight of the outbreak of the War and later transferred into the 5th Dragoon Guards. Later still he was transferred into the H.L.I. and he served three years in France with them. He was wounded twice and was awarded the Military Medal for gallantry in the field. He had been educated at Minto school and Hawick High School and after leaving he had worked in the office of Barrie & Kersel. hosiery manufacturers of Hawick. The photographs show the victorious Allies during the last “100 Days” to final Victory. His Headstone is inscribed ” Blessed Are The Dead That Die In the Lord”.
