Private John Falconer

Private John Falconer, 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots. He was killed in Belgium on 19th December 1915, aged 21. He was the son of George and Alison Falconer of Clintmains, St Boswells and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial Ypres, Flanders, Belgium. Before enlisting in May 1915 he had been employed as a forester on the Mertoun Estate. At that time the Battalion were holding front line trenches near St. Eloi in the Ypres Salient.  This was an unwholesome area always plagued by intermittent shellfire and enemy snipers.
