Private John Mack

Private John Mack, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France on 1st September 1918 during the ” Advance to Victory ” aged 28. He was the son of Thomas and Letitia Mack of Blakelaw, Kelso and he had been born at Makerstoun. He is buried in Queant Road Cemetery, Queant, France. He fell in the assault on Queant ( Part of the Hindenburg line ). It was a costly business and only partially successful due to a heavy concentration of machine gun posts which had enfiladed the attack. 3  Officers and 26 Other Ranks were killed and 6 Officers and 102 Other Ranks were wounded. The photographs show Allied troops advancing after the retreating German Army during the last 100 days of the War.
