Private Frank Andrews

Private Frank Andrews, 21st Battalion, ( 2nd Tyneside Scottish ), Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France on 5th June 1917, aged 30. He had been born in Alnwick and was the son of the late Frank and Johan Andrews and is buried in Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, France. He fell in action in the attack on “Greenland Hill” during the Battle of Arras. 21st Tyneside Scottish was part of the 102nd Tyneside Brigade along with 20th and 22nd Tyneside Scottish in the 34th Division and were nicknamed ” Hard as Hammers “. He had enlisted in Alnwick. The photograph shows allied troops during the Battle.
