Lance Corporal Thomas Young

Lance Corporal Thomas Young, 7th ( Service ) Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders. He was killed in action in France on 12th October 1916 during the Battle of the Somme and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Thiepval, Somme, France. He fell in a hastily prepared attack on the Butte De Warlencourt which failed with heavy casualties in the Battalion. Many of the casualties were apparently caused by our own artillery shells falling short ( today known as a Blue on Blue ). 7th Seaforths were part of the 9th ( Scottish ) Division. The first photograph shows a group of Seaforths checking a captured German dugout and the other two show Scottish troops during the Battle.
