Sergeant Joseph Scott

Sergeant Joseph Charlton Scott, 1st/7th ( Territorial ) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers and transferred to 852nd Area Employment Coy. Labour Force. He was killed in action in France on 21st March 1918 on the first day of the German March Offensive, aged 25. He was the brother of Mrs Grace Hills of Bowsden, Berwick-Upon-Tweed and is buried in Achiet-Le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension, France. After the War an impressive Memorial was raised to commemorate the 50th ( Northumbrian ) Division of which the Battalion was part. It was erected near the village of Weiltje in the Ypres Salient where on the 26th April 1915 the Division had fought its first action of the War only days after landing on the Continent.
