Private Alexander Wade

Private Alexander Wade, 1st Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in Flanders on 22nd September 1917 during the Battle of Third Ypres, aged 24. He had been born at Cheswick and was the son of Margaret and the late T. Wade of Bowsden Hall, Berwick-upon-Tweed and is commemorated at Tyne Cot, Zonnebeke, Ypres, Belgium. At this time the Battalion were holding trenches in preparation for an attack on the village of Zonnebeke. The photographs show the desolation of the Flanders battlefields where the incessant shelling had destroyed the drainage systems.
