Rifleman John Renton, 8th ( Service ) Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles. He was killed in action in Flanders on 3rd August 1917 during the Battle of Third Ypres, aged 23. He was the son of Ralph and Margaret Renton of Chillingham, Alnwick and is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Ypres. The photos show troops during the early part of the Battle.
