Private Pringle Leithead

Private Pringle Leithead, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Palestine, aged 27, on 13th November, 1917 and is buried in Ramleh War Cemetery in the town of Ramla, formerly in Palestine now Israel. He had been born in Edrom, Berwickshire and was the son of Adam and Christine Leithead of 5 Princes Street, Hawick, Roxburghshire.  Before enlisting he had been employed as a carter with Messrs. Geo. Blaikie & Coy., coal merchants. Before that he had worked as a ploughman with Mr Inglis of Clerklands, Lilliesleaf. In the Battalion he was officer’s orderly to Lieutenant Macpherson of Jedburgh. The photographs show Borderers at Ramleh in late 1917.
