Company Sergeant Major David Moody

Company Sergeant Major David Moody, 1st Garrison Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. He died on Service in India, aged 33, on 6th June 1918 and is buried in Rawalpindi War Cemetery, Pakistan.  He had been born in Mertoun and was the son of David and the late Jane Moody of Mertoun and Norham.He had originally enlisted in the 1st Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers as a Regular soldier in 1911 and had served in India.  He had left the Army and worked as a postman in Jedburgh before being mobilised as a Reservist in August 1914. He was posted to the 2nd K.O.S. B. then the 9th ( Reserve ) K.O.S.B. At some point he was transferred to the Gordons in India  where he died from heatstroke in the Stationary Hospital in Rawalpindi. Most of the casualties in this cemetery were the result of the Operations on the North West Frontier which never ceased
