Second Lieutenant Walter Barrie

Second Lieutenant Walter Barrie, 3rd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers att. 6th Battalion, Border Regiment. He was killed in action in Belgium on 7th June 1917, aged 37. He had been born at Hartsgarth, Newcastleton and was the youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs John Barrie of South Berryfell, Hawick and is buried in Irish House Cemetery, near Ypres, Flanders, Belgium. He had been engaged on the farm at the outbreak of the War and and had joined the Lothian and Border Horse Yeomanry at the outbreak of War. As Sergeant he landed in France in September 1915. He was selected for Officer training and was commissioned into the K.O.S.B before being attached to the Border Regiment.
