Private Richard Irving

Private Richard Irving, 2nd Battalion, Black Watch. He was killed in action in Mesapotamia on 28th January 1916, aged 26. He was the son of Andrew and Betsy Irving of Dinley Haughfoot, Newcastleton and is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Iraq. The Battalion was part of the force tasked to advance up the River Tigris to try and relieve an Allied force beseiged by the Turks in the town of Kut.
