Private John Elliot

Private John Elliot, 1st/5th ( Cumberland ) Battalion, Border Regiment. He was killed in action  in France, aged 38, on the 2nd October 1918 during the ” Advance to Victory”. He had been born in Castleton and was the son of James and the late Margaret Elliot of Long Row, Carlisle and is buried in Bellicourt British Cemetery, France.  His Headstone is inscribed ” Go, Brave Heart Forward As Was thy Wont And In Dying For thy Country Thou Didst Truly Live”.
