Lieutenant Ronald Tulloch

Lieutenant. Ronald Smith Tulloch, Royal Engineers  Attd. 5 Field Coy ,Royal West Africa Frontier Force.  He was killed in action against the Japanese in Burma on 25th January 1944 aged 23 . He is commemorated on the Rangoon Memorial, Rangoon, Burma. He is also commemorated on the Eccles Memorial. He had been born in Duns and was the son of Laurence and Bessie Tulloch of Leitholm Schoolhouse. Ronald was educated at Leitholm Primary, Daniel Stewarts College and Edinburgh University where he studied Engineering. He was a member of the O. T. C. and was commissioned from there in July 1941.  Whilst there he won the William Robertson prize for shooting three years running. In early 1943 he was posted to West Africa and then India before taking part in the Burma campaign. The photos show troops in Burma in 1944.
