Private Norman Blythe Watson

Private Norman Blythe Watson, 1st/4th (Territorial) Battalion, Royal Scots. He died on Active Service in hospital, aged 23, in Malta on 16th August 1915 of wounds sustained at Gallipoli.  He had been born in Eccles and was the son of Rev. J. Mitchell Watson and Margaret Watson of Leitholm and is buried  in Pieta Military Cemetery (Malta). He was educated at the Berwickshire High School, Duns and was a law student at Edinburgh University from 1912-1914. Whilst at his studies he joined the 4th, Battalion, Royal Scots which was a Territorial Force Battalion.  He is also commemorated on the Memorial Tablet placed in the new Berwickshire High School, Duns. His Battalion was part of the 52nd ( Lowland) Division which landed at Gallipoli in June 1915.
