Private Peter Johnson

Private Peter Veitch Johnson, 10th ( Service ) Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment. He was killed in action in France on 25th March 1918 during the German March Offensive, aged 23. He was the son of Thomas Johnson and Mary Jane Veitch of Redden, Kelso and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. Before enlisting in February 1916 he had been employed by Mr Wood of Castle Heaton Farm, Cornhill-on-Tweed. The photographs show Allied troops preparing to resist the advancing Germans.
