Ordinary Seaman Thomas Elliot

Ordinary Seaman Thomas Norman Elliot, Royal Navy. He died on Service on 29th September 1940, aged 24 aboard H.M.S. Patrol Yacht “Nirvana”. He had been born in Caddonfoot, Selkirkshire and was the son of John and Mary Elliot of 14 East Street, Lauder and is buried in Falmouth Cemetery.  Before enlisting he had been working at the Douglas Hotel, Galashiels and was training on the ” Nirvana when he drowned.  He had been returning from a dance in St Mawes, Cornwall when his small boat capsized in the River Percuil drowning him and seven other servicemen. H.M.S.” Nirvana” was a Harbour Defence Patrol Vessel of 32 tons which had previously been a private vessel taken over by the Admiralty for the duration of the War.
