Private Robert Robertson

Private Robert Halliday Robertson, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died from wounds in France, aged 20, on 25th September 1918 during the “Advance to Victory”. He had been born in Lauder and was the son of John and Robina Robertson of Dawson Brae, Lauder and is buried in Mouevres British Cemetery, France. Before enlisting he had been employed in a Solicitor’s office in Lauder.He had been wounded in the confused fighting for the town of Mouevres which was eventually cleared by the rest of the 52nd Lowland Division of which the Battalion was part. This action cost the Battalion 25 Other Ranks killed. The photos show Allied troops advancing after the retreating German Army during the final 100 days of the War.
