Sergeant Gordon Hodge

Sergeant Gordon MacRae Hodge, 49 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was killed on an Air Operation on 12th October 1942 aged 25. He had been born in Ayrshire and was the son of John and Mary Hodge of Thirlestane, Lauder and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. In October 1942, 49 Squadron was flying Avro Lancasters from R.A.F. Scampton. He was an air gunner when his Lancaster had taken off from R.A.F. Scampton in Lincolnshire for a raid on Wismar on the Baltic coast. The aircraft was not heard from again.
