Private Arthur Caborn

Private Arthur Caborn, 10th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He was killed in action in France on 9th April 1917, aged 25, on the first day of the Battle of Arras. He had been born in Burton, Derbyshire and was the son of Joseph and Mary Caborn of  Mickleover, Derby and is buried in Cojeul British Cemetery, St. Martin-Sur-Coteul, France. Before the war he had worked as a footman for Mrs Askew Robertson of Ladykirk House. ( The” Berwickshire Advertiser ” has his rank as Sergeant ). The photograph shows British troops accompanied by a tank in the main street of a captured village near Arras. 9th April was a great success for the British Army with most of the day’s objectives achieved. His Headstone is inscribed ” Peace Perfect Peace “.
