Private Joshua Locke

Private Joshua Locke, 15th ( Service )Battalion, Durham Light Infantry. He was killed in action in France on 16th September 1916 during the Battle of the Somme and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Thiepval, Somme, France. He was the youngest son of Matthew and Elizabeth Locke who had both been born at Ford. When he enlisted he had been living at Tenterhill, Wooler and was employed as a farm horseman. The photos show troops on the Somme with the colour image showing a peaceful Somme landscape today.
