Corporal William Yeomans

Corporal William Yeomans, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died in Palestine, aged 25, on 7th June 1917 of wounds received in action and is buried in Deir El Belah War Cemetery, Israel. He had been born in Jedburgh, lived in Eckford, Roxburghshire and was the son of Thomas and the late Agnes Yeomans of Wester Wooden, Eckford( He may have been wounded during the attack on ” Outpost Hill” on 19th April which was part of the Second Battle of Gaza ). The photographs show the Borderers in Palestine in 1917. The three soldiers shown were all footballers with Coldstream F.C., Alec Lawrie, Willie Cockburn and Jim Murray.
