Second Lieutenant William McLaren

Second Lieutenant William Somerville McLaren, Royal Flying Corps. He was killed in action with 44 Squadron on 19th November 1917, aged 19. He was the son of Duncan McLaren of Fairnington, Kelso and is buried in Zuydcoote Military Cemetery, Nord, France. 44 Squadron was designated a Home Defence Squadron and flew the Sopwith Camel. His brother James also fell ( see above ). His Headstone is inscribed ” They Died That We Might Live”. The first photo shows a Home Defence Camel.
