Private Walter Henderson

Private Walter Currie Henderson, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France on 4th October 1918 during the “Advance to Victory” aged 23. He was the son of John and Jane Henderson of Rosebank Lodge, Kelso and is buried in Cantaing British Cemetery, Cambrai, France. He fell in the fighting to capture the German positions near Faubourg de Paris which cost the Battalion 150 men of whom 30 were killed. The German army was now in full retreat all along the Front and this was the Borderers last real action of the War. The photographs show Allied troops advancing against the retreating German army during the final 100 days of the War.
