Sapper Thomas Steel, 79th Field Company Royal Engineers. He was killed in action on 31st July, 1917, aged 30, on the first day of the Battle of Third Ypres and is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Ypres, Belgium. He had been born in Walsall and was the son of Margaret and the late Thomas Steel of East Bowmont Street, Kelso.
