Company Sergeant Major Thomas Galbraith, M.M.

Company Sergeant Major Thomas Galbraith, M.M., 21st ( Eastern Ontario )Battalion, Canadian Infantry. He was killed in action in France,, aged 29, on the 27th August 1918 during the ” Advance to Victory”. He had been born in Sprouston and was the son of Thomas and the late Jane Galbraith of Graden and Holefield, Kelso. At some point he had emigrated to Canada and was working as a groom when he enlisted in March 1915. He is buried in Tigris Lane Cemetery, Wancourt, France. The photos show troops advancing after the retreating German Army. ( His brother William also fell – see below).
