Private Thomas Donaldson

Private Thomas Donaldson, 18th Battalion, Australian Infantry Forces. He died in France in the 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, Grevilliers on the 5th May 1917 of wounds received in action during the Battle of Arras, aged 25. He was the son of Mrs Mary A. Blake of Caldron Brae, Roxburgh and is buried in Grevilliers British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. He had emigrated to Australia in 1912 and was working as a labourer when he enlisted in Liverpool, New South Wales in July 1915. He then served at Gallipoli and France where he was wounded in August 1916.   His Headstone is inscribed ” Until The Day Breaks And The Shadows Flee Away”. The photographs shows Allied troops in the main street of a captured village near Arras and elsewhere.
