Private Peter Armstrong

Private Peter Armstrong, 7th ( Service ) Battalion, Cameron Highlanders. He was killed in action in France on 26th September on the second day of the Battle of Loos, aged 26. He was the son of William and Janet of Heiton, Kelso and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Dud Corner, Loos, France. 7th Camerons were a unit in the 15th (Scottish) Division which was comprised of New Army Units filled by volunteers and who were fairly inexperienced in trench warfare. The photo shows the village of Loos after its capture. The artist’s illustration depicts the Camerons in the attack on a German trench.
