Lance Corporal John Wight

Lance Corporal John Wight, 6th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Belgium, aged 20, on 18th August 1918 during the “Advance to Victory” and is commemorated on Ploegsteert Memorial, Ploegsteert, Belgium. He been brought up by his Grand Parents in Jedburgh and before enlisting in November 1914 he had been employed on the farm of Whitton, Morebattle.  He was killed in the action at Hoegenacker Mill where all the tactical objectives were gained and 100 prisoners taken. The cost was not light with 3 Officers and 29 Other Ranks killed and 7 Officers and 139 Other Ranks wounded. The illustrations and photographs show Allied troops advancing against the retreating German army during the final 100 days of the War.
