Private John Sharpe

Private John Sharpe, 9th ( Service ) Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. He died in France on 28th September 1915, aged 24, of wounds received in action during the Battle of Loos. He was the son of Robert and Margaret Sharpe of Bowmont Cottage, Yetholm, Kelso and is buried in Noeux-Les-Mines Communal Cemetery, nr. Bethune, Pas de Calais, France. 9th ( Service ) Battalion was a Pioneer Battalion in the 15th Scottish Division. His Headstone is inscribed “Deeply Missed”. The  photograph shows Loos after its capture on the 25th. The artists illustration shows an attack at Loos led by their pipers.
