Private James Hope

Private James Hope, 7th/8th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died of wounds suffered in action, aged 30, in France on 26th July 1916 during the Battle of the Somme and is buried in France in the Longuenesse (St.Omer) Souvenir Cemetery. He had been born in Kelso and was the son of William and Helen Hope of Kelso.  He had originally been with the 1st K.O.S.B. serving at Gallipoli before being posted to the 7th/8th Battalion in France. The photographs show Scots troops on the Somme with the colour image depicting a peaceful Somme landscape today with “no gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing now”.
