Private James Craig

Private James A. Craig, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was posted missing presumed killed on 31st May 1917 in Palestine, aged 23. He had been born in Sprouston and was the son of Adam and the late Catherine Craig of Harlaw, Kelso and is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial, Israel. At that time the Battalion was not involved in any offensive action but carried out the occasional patrol towards the Turkish lines. The photographs show the Borderers in Palestine in 1917. The three soldiers are Alec Lawrie, Willie Cockburn and Jim Murray all of whom played football for Coldstream F.C.
