Lieutenant John Laidlaw

Lieutenant John Leslie Laidlaw, 10th ( Service ) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He  died in France on 20th July 1916 of wounds received in action during the Battle of the Somme, aged 22. He was the son of the Rev.John and Mrs Laidlaw of Muthill, Perthshire. and is buried in Corbie Communal Cemetery, Corbie, Somme, France. His Headstone is inscribed ” He Leaves A White Unbroken Glory A Shining Peace “. He was educated at Kelso High School and Merchiston Castle, Edinburgh. Between 1912 and 1914 he had studied medicine at Edinburgh University and was a member of the O.T.C. He was wounded in the fighting for Longueval on 16th and 17th July and died of his wounds on 20th July. The  photographs show Scottish troops on the Somme.
