Private George Luke

Private George Luke, 12th ( Service ) Battalion, Royal Scots. He died in France on 3rd October 1915 , aged 20, from wounds received in action during the Battle of Loos and is buried in Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, France. He had been born in Eccles, Berwickshire, lived in Kelso and was the son of James and Agnes Luke. He had been wounded and taken prisoner during the Battle and had died in a German Field Hospital. The artist’s nightmarish illustration shows an attack at Loos with the troops wearing their gas hoods and using primitive grenades.
